Employment Assistance and Training for Veterans with Disabilities

Author: Regine Alisan

Everyone can find it difficult to find a job, but people with disabilities—including veterans who might encounter particular struggles in the labor market—may find the process considerably harder. Several initiatives and programs have been developed to provide assistance, guidance, and direction to help manage these struggles. Job seeking can be made easier and more efficient with platforms and resources tailored to people with disabilities.

General Job Listings for People with Disabilities

AbilityOne.gov: Blind and severely disabled individuals can use this resource to find employment opportunities nationwide at nonprofit agencies. Job seekers looking for inclusive and supportive work environments should start here.

USAJOBS.gov: The official job site for the federal government, USAJOBS provides employment tips and resources for individuals with disabilities. In addition, a Selective Placement Program Coordinator (SPPC) is available at every federal department to help job applicants with impairments with the application process.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN): To ensure you have the resources you need to achieve your goals, JAN offers quality assistance on workplace accommodations. JAN is also prepared to address your queries and provide helpful information, whether you’re looking into housing options or need help with the job application process.

Available Job Listings for Veterans with Disabilities: If you are a veteran with a service-connected disability, you can gain employment support. To help veterans with disabilities related to their military service obtain and maintain employment, the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VRE) Program provides ample assistance. VRE provides help, career guidance, and job training for individuals interested in starting a business.

The federal government may also hire qualified veterans with disabilities who qualify for special hiring authorities. As a result of these special hiring paths, veterans will have more opportunities to pursue rewarding careers within the federal government.

The Ticket to Work Program: The Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program offers free training and support for people with disabilities who want to return to work. The best part? You can continue receiving your disability benefits while getting help with job searches and building valuable work experience.
